Where's the best place to work as a nurse?

A nursing home, hospital, private duty, etc.? I'm wanting to go to school for nursing but I want to be sure about what my goal is after I'm done. I worked as a CNA for a few years and the nurses in the nursing homes seemed to have it easier than the nurses in a hospital. I really don't want easy but want all the experience I can get. What you hardworking nurses think?
Answers:
it all depends on your personal opinions. do whatever suits you.
School nurse if you want regular hours and long vacations.
I'd say find some area of medicine you like. I know a few that like psychiatric best and others that would not make a full days of work there.
Since the "Baby Boomers" are now entering the Nursing home ages, that's where new nurses will be needed the most. I think your work will be more appreciated there.
I'm not a nurse, I'm a paramedic but I started off as a CNA before going on. It all depends on what kind of person you are and what holds your interest. If you've been working in a nursing home you already know that to deal with the residents you have to have a lot of patience. You will see those people every day without change unless they die or someone new comes in. You will have to be prepared to deal with what will sometimes be a monotonous job. To work in a hospital you have to be able to deal with change, most of your patients in hospital will be sent home within a few days unless you are working in an extended care unit where you will have patients for longer periods. In hospital you have to deal more with the doctors which can be a pain when they don't want to deal with you at 3am. There are also other considerations for being an in hospital nurse, you have to decide which area you want to work in.IE: ER, OB, ICU, surgery. etc. all different areas have different demands, and you will see different things. Talk to the nurses you work with now and see what they think.. do they like what they are doing or would they like to do something different.
Good luck!
I like the nursing home because I have a lot more interaction between me and my patients. The residents are there a lot longer than at a hospital and you are able to attend to their needs a lot better. I feel I am alot more appreciated in my role, and thus I love my job.
Working in a hospital when u graduate out of nursing schoool will give you
the experience you need. You will put all that knowledge you learned to use
and it will be rewarding.
get the experience you need in the nursing homes first and the more experience you have the better chance to get into the hosptials. learn all you can at the cna level and then check on the classes for the nursing program. and good luck to you.
Truthfully, no job is easier than another, but to get the most knowledge would be to work in a hospital. You can always pick a deptartment that is not as busy as another.
St Vincent Hospital In GreenBay WI
I would have to say in the back with the patients, you get more hands on and you meet new people all the time.
hospitals, nursing home, assisted living facilities..
clinical researcher for pharmaceutical companies.
Memorial Sloan Kettering.its a specialized hospital looking for nurses.. New York..
hospital is the maternity ward.i think that would be really nice seeing all of the babies and stuff
nursing home, red cross, or even WHO team to disaster areas throughout the world.
at ASUs new college in down town phoenix.
I think a hospital is the best. You could met many patient with many complain and diseases, manage many trouble, met many doctor and other staff so everyday you could have new experience. It's a challenge. Maybe you could attracted to a doctor?! Choose one. Sorry, I'm kidding ;)
If you want a routine job then work in a nursing home. The patients stay the same and you usually don't wonder off a routine often and it is slower paced.
If you want more excitement and not much routine then work in a hospital. The patients change often. This is a good place for someone who enjoys meeting new people. It is more fast paced and demanding.
I worked in both and enjoyed the nursing home more.
